BRAEHEAD Clan head coach Ryan Finnerty was impressed with his team's efforts after taking four points away from home against Manchester Storm and Sheffield Steelers.

Saturday’s 6-4 win in Altrincham was followed up by a tighter 2-1 victory over the Steelers on Sunday as Clan returned to winning ways.

And the coach had little sympathy for Paul Thompson’s side, who saw two contentious goals chopped by the referee in the clash at Ice Sheffield.

He said: “The whole weekend was a positive really. It was two different games and in Manchester, we did our best to throw it away then showed the great character we have in the team.

“Then we ground out a result in Sheffield and did exactly what we talked about in our pre-game meeting. Steelers put us under pressure, but we deserved the win after throwing it away against them in previous games. I’m sure they’ll be annoyed at not seeing at least one of the two goals go in, but we’ve had decisions against them so it all balances out. Sometimes you get the calls, sometimes you don’t.”

Finnerty admitted his team didn’t play as much on the front foot as he would have liked in Sheffield, but the growing confidence played a part in seeing his team close out winning results.

He added: “We played a perfect road game and we wanted to weather the storm in the first 10 minutes in Sheffield and we did that."
