FIRED-up Irvine Victoria are desperate to bounce back after losing their unbeaten record in the league.

The Westenders on Saturday suffered their first loss in the Ayrshire District League as the leaders went down 2-0 at home to Lugar Boswell Thistle.

However they remain in a very good position and are six points ahead of second-place Darvel and 12 clear of Girvan, who have five games in hand.

Manager Stevie Wilson was disappointed with the result and said: "I obviously can't be too hard on the guys as we had been on a great run and it was our first defeat in 11 games. But the defeat hurts. That's what can happen if you let your standards slip. We lost a poor first goal but at times lacked a cutting edge although we had chances. The second goal was a real sucker punch as we had been pushing for the equaliser."

Wilson, meanwhile was disappointed his side what he felt was a legitimate goal chalked off midway through the second half.

He said: "David Wilson had the ball in the net but the referee chalked it off because he said he had kicked the ball out of his hands but that wasn't the case. I felt the goal should have stood."

The boss believes it's important for the players to get the result out of their systems and added: "We will talk about the game in training this week, although we don't want to dwell on it. Hopefully we can learn from the defeat. After a result like that you want a match to bounce back for. Our next competitive match is not until January 9 and we will be looking to win that."
