ATTACKING midfielder ace Ben Lewis is hoping Kilwinning Rangers can make a strong title challenge after helping them extend their unbeaten run to 10 games on Saturday.

But manager Chris Strain Jnr still feels his side are capable of more, despite the 5-0 home win against Maybole which moved them up to third place in the Super First Division, a point behind second-placed Clydebank and seven adrift of leaders Largs Thistle.

Lewis was on target in the easy victory with a vintage first half strike.

He is impressed with his side's form and said: "We are in a good position in the league, especially with a win today with Cumnock and Largs drawing. that helped. It was good that the goals were spread around the team again. Isaac Kerr even chipped in with a goal against Cumbernauld the previous week. Ideally we look to push on and if we can win all our home games and pick up a few decent results away we will be there or thereabouts. The main aim is promotion and it would be great if we could win the league and get back to where we belong."

Lewis is enjoying teaming up with veteran striker Ian Cashmore and said :"It's great playing alongside Ian as I used to watch him as a lad. He has a lot of experience and I learn a lot from working with him."

Manager Chris Strain was encouraged with the display although feels his side could have been more ruthless and said: "I was pleased with the win although in the second half I feel we did not drive home our advantage. It seems crasss to say I'm disappointed we won 5-0 but we missed numerous chances. I'm really pleased we are in the promotion shake-up."

Buffs play Auchinleck Talbot in a bounce game at Kilwinning Sports Club next Tuesday, December 29, ko 7pm.

Meanwhile Irvine Meadow last Wednesday re-signed veteran striker Richie Barr as they go all out to try and ensure Premier Division survival.

Manager Stevie Rankin said: "Richie is an experienced striker and a goalscorer.. Chris Hall is injured and I'm sure Richie will do well. He scored in a friendly against Rutherglen Glencairn last Monday and has fitted in well. He knows the club from being here before."

Meadow play Renfrew away in a friendly next Tuesday, December 29, ko 7.15pm.
