FORMER Ayr United defender Martyn Campbell is targeting promotion with Kilwinning Rangers after signing on at Abbey Park.

The experienced stopper last week left Somerset Park after 11 years.

He is savouring the challenge after making his debut in the 5-2 win at Kilsyth Rangers and said: "This is a good opportunity. I live in Kilwinning so it is really handy. Hopefully I can help the Buffs achieve promotion."

Buffs boss Chris Strain Jnr is delighted to have his former Ayr and Irvine Meadow team-mate on board and said: "Martyn has so much experience and is a formidable defender. He hasn't played many games recently so we won't rush him."

Saturday sees Buffs hosting Arniston Rangers in an ETHX Energy Scottish Junior Cup tie.

Strain said: "We know Arniston's strengths but if we play well we will win."

Irvine Vics on Monday defeated Beith Ams 6-2 in a friendly, with Mark McRobert and David Adams bagging doubles and Scott Chesney and Kevin Adam also netting.

They host Kello Rovers in the league and boss Stevie Wilson said: "It will be tough but we look to take three points."
