IT was back to the Winter League for the Fullarton Wheelers on the first Monday of 2016 as they took on part of the famous Amstel Gold classic.

This event was over a five-mile undulating course and gave an insight into who had and hadn’t enjoyed the festivities of recent weeks.

In the ladies’ completion, Aileen Clyde managed to overcome Catherine Logan for the first time by a meres six seconds in 14:40.. This gives Catherine a four-one advantage in the head-to-heads between the duo.

Special mention in the men's completion must be made to young Ryan Broadfoot.

At only 15 years of age, Ryan has been slowly maturing as a cyclist and took 12th place, out-performing many seasoned riders, in his best performance to date with a time of 13:08.

In a change to recent weeks, two of the three top fortnightly performers found themselves racing at the same time next to each other. Darren Kean and Dave Walker did battle over the course and, cheered on by club members, nothing could separate their efforts and both finished in11:41.

The second step on the podium was taken by relative newcomer John Todd in 12:09, while Sean Baron rounded off the top three in 12:14.

At the halfway stage in the Handicap completion, Jim Seenan has a single point lead over Peter Buekelman with Brian Johnstone only a further two behind. Darren Kean has a healthy 30-point lead in the scratch competition, but as results are based on the individuals' best eight results from 10 races, placings could change over the next few months.
