Killie beat Caley Thistle to go 14 points clear of United

The free-kick in the Scottish Cup win at St Johnstone was followed by a top drawer volley which sealed Saturday's 2-1 home league win against Inverness Caley Thistle. Victory took them 14 points clear of basement team Dundee United.

The player was delighted with his goal and said: "Today's goal was quite satisfying. It was quite hard as the ball was coming out the sky and as it dropped I must managed to get my foot to it and put it into the top corner. I have challenged myself to score more goals and the more people who score from different positions the better as it helps the team out.

"Thankfully the game went on the full 90 minutes and although the conditions were bad both teams tried to play football and it was quite an exciting game."

He added: "The most important thing is we are starting to look forward and we took three points again. We are in good position and have a tough game against the teams around us coming up but if we can go to Dundee United on Saturday and take three points things will be looking good."

Defender Jamie Hamill is encouraged with his team's revival and said afterwards: " It was important we kicked on from the cup game last week. Hopefully we can get as many points on the board as possible, although we can't get carried away. Every man did what they had to do to take three points. We have ridden the storm in the past few weeks and have been working hard in the training ground. We are standing up and being counted. If we continue do what we have been doing over the last four games that will hopefully help us climb the table."

Manager Gary Locke had cause for optimism following the victory and said: "We needed to start winning. It's been a half decent start to 2016 but we still have a long way go although it helps to get back-to-back wins and that will give us confidence to kick on from there. If we play as well as that the fans will always get behind us as they did today."
