SMASH hit successes were celebrated by badminton aces from Irvine.

Irvine Junior Badminton Club competed in the Glasgow School of Sport Under-12s event.

Angus Meldrum beat number one seed Anthony McGuire in the singles quarter-finals and lost out to Sean Amir in the semi=final.. Then Angus teamed up with club-mate Jake Sangar to win the doubles title..

Eva Tremble won the Girls Singles B competition and joined forces with Zara Kirkwood for the doubles, losing out in a closely contested final

It was a. great effort from all the Irvine players. The club would like to thank short sponsors O2 in Irvine and all coaches.

Meanwhile, this year's North Ayrshire half court badminton championships are being held in Greenwood Academy on Saturday, from noon until 4pm.

This competition is aimed at kids from P4 to P7. The event is free and is organised by Irvine Junior Badminton Club and North Ayrshire Active Schools.

Entries are be given at the school reception.

The following Saturday, January 30 sees the Ayrshire Schools Badminton Association Girls and Boys tournament being held at Grange Academy in Kilmarnock. Secondary schools check in at 9.30am and Primary competitors check in at noon.

This is a qualifying tournament for the Scottish finals in Perth.

Irvine Junior Badminton Club have limited spaces available for new members. They meet on Fridays at Irvine Royal Academy (side entrance) from 6pm until 7.30pm.
