ROUND six of the Fullarton Wheelers Winter League took place last Monday night with the usual suspects looking to build on performances of recent weeks.

The virtual course this week was five miles of the famous classic Liege-Bastogne-Liege.

The sting in the tail was the one mile eight per cent limb at the halfway point, who would power up the climb in the big chain ring and who would spin up it.

League newcomer John Todd showed up well with a strong performance and elder statesman George Gass finished in a very creditable seventh.

Catherine Logan powered to a 54-second victory over Aileen Clyde in the ladies’ competition to increase her lead to 15 points.

The men’s top three saw Howie Christie finishing third in 11:57. Dave Walker was three seconds quicker at 11:54 and Darren Kean took top spot again in a time of 11:47.

Better midweek weather allowed a small club run to take place on Wednesday where seven wheelers ventured out into the night air for a 25-mile tour around North Ayrshire.

The usual run to Largs took place on Saturday with 12 cyclists making the coastal trip while Ryan Broadfoot (15) made his first appearance.

The Sunday run took saw riders making a scheduled stop at Rozelle Park in Ayr to spectate at the Doonbank Troffee cyclo-cross race.

Fullarton were represented in the senior races by Michael Allen, Catherine Logan and Russell Mowat with dual member Harry McGarvie, riding for Ayr Burners in the youths race.
