PEOPLE across North Ayrshire were encouraged to get on their bikes at a successful event recently held in Kilwinning,

Some 30 bikes of all shapes and sizes stopped people in their tracks when the Get Cycling bike try-out roadshow was staged at Eglinton Park.

Cycles or all ages and tastes were available, including city bikes, folders, tandems, trailer-bikes, trikes and recumbents as well as fun bikes to make people smile.

A ‘Bike Try-Out Roadshow, cycling advice, bike doctor service, mountain bike skills course and cycling simulator were all part of the fun. Participants in the Eglinton Park event could even take a ride on an 11-seater BikeBus.

North Ayrshire Council are working with Transport Scotland and Paths for All’s Smarter Choices, Smarter Places initiative to bring the Get Cycling Roadshow to schools as well as stating public events.

They are also running free cycle maintenance courses at schools and several local workplaces to keep cyclists and their bikes safe this winter.

A 32-page beginners’ guide to cycling is available through the council.
