A FINE dry evening greeted the Fullarton Wheelers last Monday for their weekly club night gathering at Gailes. The route chosen was a particular favourite and one whetted the appetite.

The bunch headed via Long drive to Stanecastle and then exited onto Middleton Road for the long drag up through Cunninghamhead to Stewarton.

Further climbing exiting the village past the primary school and onto the fast decent to Auchentiber with the bright bike lights illuminating the road and half of the fields around.

A left turn onto Lochlibo Road where the speed increased again, bringing the group back into Lawthorn.

Skirting around the outskirts of town the cyclists finished with a lap of the Hyster, Magnum, Marine Drive circuit and head to the hotel for coffee and cake.

The stunning weekend weather had members out on the roads making the most of the cold winter sun shine.

Meanwhile he regular run to Largs took place on Saturday morning with 9 riders enjoying the calm conditions but busy roads as many headed to the coast.

A large contingent of 19 Wheelers met at the cross on Sunday morning ready for another adventure. Two new members making their debut on a Sunday run were made most welcome with a couple of experienced riders looking out for them along the way.

The glorious sunny weather made the much favoured Pennyglen loop a no-brainer and the bunch set off making multiple detours through Irvine, Barassie, and Troon trying to avoid roadworks.

Through Prestwick, Ayr, Alloway onto the high road to Maybole, the group climbed up into the Carrick Hills, pausing to regroup along the way.

Three right turns over the course of a few miles led the riders onto the Electric Brae and the rapid decent back into Doonfoot. Some paused for a café stop while others had to return home for family duties.

Fifty fabulous miles were covered on a route which did the day justice.
