FULLARTON Wheelers week got off to good start with strong numbers out for the club run on Monday evening. The last real “night ride” of the winter months took the group from Gailes up to Cunninghamhead via Stancastle and along the back lanes into Knockentiber. The group then navigated their way through Crosshouse, Gatehead before arriving into Symington.

From there it was onto the downhill of the Kerrix, always a firm favourite, returning to Gailes via Loans and Auchengate.

Over the course of the week there were many wheelers out on the roads.

Five were down at the crit on Wednesday evening for some fast lap training before their upcoming race.

Special mention must go to Mikey Allen, Chris Blakely, Darren Kean and Gordon Stead who ventured out on Friday for a day in the ‘Ayrshire Alps’.

A route that took in Troon, Crosshill, Glennala, Nick o’ Balloch, Tairlaw, Blackies Brae before descending the Screws into Girvan.

The group then had a great tailwind back up the road to Turnberry, over the Electric Brae into Ayr and then home.

All cycled in excess of 100 miles in sunny by windy conditions.

The first CTT Time Trial of the year took place on the Westferry course in Bishopton on Saturday morning.

Seven Fullarton members took part with some early signs of promise. Brian Nicol was the fastest over 50 in a time of 23:10 with Gordon Graham only six seconds behind.

Darren Kean, after his century ride the previous day, came in 9th in 22:10, a mammoth effort! Well done to David Grossart taking part in his first open 10, coming home in 24:07.

Sunday evening saw 28 wheelers take part in a club session at the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome in Glasgow.

Coaches Brian Loye and Gordon Stead split the group into two, based on experience, with each on the track for 20-minute segments.

The sessions were extremely well structured incorporating track basis with a focus on safety at all times.
