A QUIET week for members of Irvine’s running and jogging group Ron's Runners this week saw members staying close to home and entering only the local Park 5k events.

Fearing cancellation because of the icy conditions of last weekend, both Sylvia Mulholland and Neil McMullen returned to Rozelle for the Ayr Park 5k, where a fine run from Neil saw him complete the route with 22:29 while Sylvia was credited with a 22:29. Last week too marked the 50th Eglinton Park run of John Owens who finished close to his best ever time with 21:05.

The weather midweek was almost perfect for the normal route training sessions with most of the members on their completion of their set routes commenting on having a fantastic night-time run.

Last Saturday the less able runners despite the ice on the pavements and roads enjoyed a marvellous morning’s session running around the beach park area.

Unusually there was no wind and with clear skies the day, though on the chilly side, was one of brilliant sunshine

Next week the those with an ultra-race in mind will again be out checking the route and terrain of their chosen event covering up to some 20 miles as part of their long slow build up to the actual day.

At this week’s Eglinton Park run Cameron Miller was again took the honours when for the second week, he set yet another personal best over the course, finishing with 18:56 followed Andy Stewart 20:33.

A fine run from Neil McMullen timed 21:57 followed by improving Neil Kyle 22:08.

First lady home this week Sylvia Mulholland posted 23:49 for 4th position before Pamela Porteous recorded 25:22 with Paul McCallum just behind with 25:27, repeating last week’s finishing order.

Two ladies then followed with Hazel Anderson taking 27:19 to Carol Rome’s 29:50. Sole steward from the club this week acted as “tail runner” Margaret Craig finished with 47:11.
