YET another quiet week for members of Irvine’s running and jogging group Ron's Runners saw few running events being organised, but one member Mark Garton did resume his nigh weekly trip to Glasgow once more entering the mid-week to enter the Glasgow Quays 5k held within Glasgow Green.

Mark’s recorded time on a night perfect for running was 23:43.

Another glad to be in competitive action was Pamela Porteous who was again invited by Troon Tortoises to complete their ladies team for the Masters relay held at another popular venue - this time within Strathclyde Park. With Troon only able to muster two runners, Pamela happily agreed to become the required third team member. There was a minor panic though when one Troon athlete stubbed her toe so severely prior to the start it looked likely that the team would have to run incomplete. Thankfully however the team was return to full strength with the inclusion of a Garscube lady Lesley Chisholm who had no other club mates attending.

Lesley led the team off on the first leg round a loop of 3.65 miles and much to the consternation of the local runners returned in second position having taken just 20:55 for her leg. Anne Noble (Troon) was next out and held on well handing over to Pamela with the team in 5th position, with her time of 27:29. It was a very creditable run from Pamela who timed 29:45 brought the team home in ninth position, gaining the team a time of 78 mins and 9 secs. Both Anne and Pamela agreed Lesley had led them to experience a fantastic race while trying their best to keep the team high in the finishing order.

At the local 5k Eglinton Park on a miserable dreich wet morning Cameron Miller led his club mates home when finishing with 20:54 with Andy Stewart close behind timing 21:17 for 9th and 10th positions respectfully then Neil Kyle 22:29 followed. Leading the ladies this week Jennifer Shaw was the next member over the line with her time of 24:22 an excellent performance considering the prevailing conditions and also giving her the honour of third lady finisher. Mark Garton this week took 25:07 just ahead of John Owen’s 25:38. Pamela Porteous in action again recorded 26:05 while a more cautious run from Fiona Wyper timed 26:12.

Grahame Shaw this week posted a creditable 29:15 then a fine run by Lynn Shearer saw her claim a 31:17 finish clear of Margaret Craig (31:49).

Drawing ever closer to his 100 target Eric Pearson recorded 33:25 in his 92nd ark run all of which have been in Eglinton Making a welcome return from injury run carefully to post 34:29.

The only member this week to help marshal the event was Rebecca Wyper.

Club training sessions to which all standard of runners are welcomed take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays from the Asda end of the Mall Running with company adds to the enjoyment and keeps runners safer. For details contact jogalong2010@hotmail.com.
