IRVINE VICTORIA 2

PETERSHILL 2

by Matt Speirs

VALIANT Vics battled back from two goals down and in the end should have picked up all three points in their battle for survival.

The first chance of the match came the way of the home side but David Adams, who was through one on-one with the keeper, shot weakly past the post.

Petershill took control after this and in five minute Chris Hall sent a shot against the post with Chris Lamb beaten. Three minutes later the Glasgow side took the lead when former Irvine Meadow man Stewart McCann left Cameron

Hambleton standing and his cross into the box was netted by Jason Hardie.

Peasy doubled their score in 21 minutes when another former Meadow man, Liam Finnigan sent McCann free and his cross was headed into the net by Jason Hardie.

Vics got back into the match in 27 minutes when former Meadow man Grant Bolton set up Eddie Ablohr who netted from close range.

The turning point in the match came in the 33 minutes when Jordan Murch was harshly ordered off for a tackle on David Gray.

Five minutes Vics were level when a corner-kick found the Petershill defence in a mess and Graham Longair netted from six yards.

Midway through the half Vics were awarded a penalty when Michael White pulled down Ablohr at the edge of the penalty area. However David Adams sent a weak shot straight at the visiting goalie, who saved easily.

The heavy pitch was taking its toll on the players now and it was not surprising that neither side could find a winning goal.

Vics remain rooted to bottom spot with just one win from 15 games and how they could have done with a victory on Saturday.

But it will be a real struggle to survive with only 11 games remaining.
