THE last event of Fullarton Wheelers Winter League took place this week with the riders returning to home territory for the classic Eglinton 10-mile time trial up and down the A78. It being the last event a good turnout of 31 Club members took part in the race - all vying for one last chance to improve their position in the league. Race night in the Barn was as fevered and exciting as ever and, unusually, the men’s event ended up in a dead heat with Chris Blakely and Darren Kean both recording times of 22min 40sec and third place going to Gordon Graham in 22:54. The women’s race was also very close, with Natalie Hunter on 26:23, just beating Catherine Logan with 23:35.

In third place was Fiona Davidson on 27’ 54”. These results mean that at the end of the six race competition 48 Wheelers have taken part in the 2016-17 League with the Club’s Male Champion being Darren Kean and the Female Champion is Catherine Logan. FWCC offers congratulations on the fantastic efforts put in by both these riders to retain their titles.

The weekend saw another Scottish Cycling Super Saturday track racing extravaganza at the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome in Glasgow. Fullarton Wheelers were represented by both Adults and Youths. Sean Barron, Natalie Hunter and Alasdair MacFarlane all scored points in the adult events - maintaining the club’s positive showing at these events over the winter. It was also tremendous to see two more of the club’s youth section making their debuts at track racing.

Conal Davidson and Isla Muirhead both made fantastic efforts racing against young riders in older age categories. Conal and Isla thoroughly enjoyed their race debuts and are enthusiastic about getting back to the track for more racing in the future.
