THE Jack Crawford Springburn Cup is traditionally one of the first 10k races of the year and is run mainly of towpaths and footpaths along the Forth and Clyde Canal at Bishopbriggs providing a flat course which is suitable for fast times.

This event proved to be another successful one for the prolific Paul Lafferty from Irvine Running Club who recorded a new personal best of 35:36, finishing in 11th place overall in the race, which was won by Michael Deason of Shettleston Harriers.

Meanwhile, at the Eglinton Parkrun a number of Irvine Running Club members took part, with the muddy underfoot conditions making the task of remaining on one’s feet a difficult one during the wooded sections of the course.

Stephen Daye continued his fine record in the event, being first home in an excellent time of 17:10 which was a superb return, given the conditions. Alan Douglas (19:53) was next to finish with Jim Sneddon (21:43), John Surgenor (21:55) and Joe McNamee (22:53) not too far behind. Mike Flinn (24:32) and Liz Colquhoun (28:08) completed the Irvine squad in a good turnout of 142 runners.
