A PROMISING young Irvine Vineburgh boxer is gearing up for the second fight of his professional career in Glasgow on Thursday night.

Jordan Beveridge (20) will fight an opponent to be confirmed at the Radisson Blu Hotel.

The welterweight bout comes 16 months after he defeated Youssef Al Hamidi at Ayr Town Hall and he is savouring a return to action.

Jordan said: "I took a wee break from boxing but am really looking forward to getting back into it. I am looking forward to Thursday night and am hopeful of victory. I am not looking too far ahead and just taking small steps as I am early in my career."

He geared up for the fight by taking part in a sparring session with another upcoming fighter, Ahmed Ibrahim at the MGM gymn in Glasgow last week.

"That was a good experience and will help get me into shape," he added.

Jordan had a great amateur career, winning four Scottish titles, three West of Scotland crowns and two British title medals.

Meanwhile Beveridge's Irvine Vineburgh team-mate Ryan Collins will be fourth on the bill as he fights Charlie Flynn for the Scottish lightweight title on the Ricky Burns undercard on April 15.

And Flynn expects a real test.

He said: It’s a big title and a big deal for me. This is a real fight. He has a good record and it’s a fight I can get my teeth into. That’s what I need."
