SUNDAY saw a fired-up Trojans travelling to Leeds intent on avenging last season's opening day defeat against Rams.

However it wa the Yorkshire hosts who would put on a fine football display and come away with a 41-12 win.

The game started badly when Trojans QB Gary McKney threw a pick six with his first pass of the day, followed by another on the Rams' three-yard line when looking to tie the score in the first quarter.

The Rams took the lead in the first quarter with a pick six, but the Trojans then drove the ball 80-yard lin.  which resulted in returning RB Lorn Campbell scoring from close range.

QB Kris Kennedy replaced QB McNey for the start of the second quarter, with the veteran struggling to carry on with a severe chest infection. Kennedy would hook up with rookie Wide Receiver Andrew Walker for a nice 60-yard bomb but the damage was already done by this point.

Turnovers and poor finishing kept the scoring from the Trojans low with the Rams punishing the team with no fewer than five rushing TD and a passing TD.

HC McNey commented: "I think we were a little over-confident having watched their game film from the previous week in a loss which was obviously a poor Rams performance, we also lost some key players in WR Murray Hogg and LB Tam Chapman who are hard to replace"

"We never performed on the day, I think our rookies of five on defense and three on offense found the step up from playing associate teams to established teams something else, this is something we need to work on if we are to achieve any results this year"

"We just got out-played by a better team but we know we are a better team than the result shows ad we will bounce back"

The Trojans next game May 7 sees them face May Division 1 fav Manchester Titans who themselves had a comfortable 41-0 win v Doncaster. This will be a very tough game against the Manchester club who are rated the number one club in the league.
