IRVINE went down to near neighbours Renfrew in a high-scoring Western Union Premier Division clash at Marress on Saturday.

The visitors won the toss and put the home side in to bat first.

Openers Inderj Singh and Rafay Ashraf scored 25 and 24 respectively before number four batsman Brandon Harwood hit an excellent 82 as Irvine ended their innings on 205 for nine.

However the Irvine bowling attack struggled to make inroads on the Renfrew batting and the visiting side passed their total for the loss of only four wickets, giving them a six-wicket victory.

Harwood, Singh and Hafeez Muthair took a wicket apiece.

Ashraf said: "We thought we had hit a good total but fielding didn't go as well. We missed a stumping and a run out and there some catching opportunities but it was just one of those days when things didn't go for us."

Irvine on Saturday visit Stirling County for a league match.
