Dumbarton 10k

IT was another busy week for runners from Irvine Running Club as the road running season starts to get into full swing.

The Dumbarton 10k, the middle race of three in the Babcock race series, is known to be a fast course and provided the venue for two Irvine athletes to follow up on recent good performances at the distance.

Stephen Daye, who recently posted a new personal best at the Troon 10k, recorded another excellent time of 34 minutes and 27 seconds to finish in 11th place, behind winner Wayney Ghebresilassie of Shettleston Harriers.

Ryan Evans also followed up last weekend’s win at the Largs 10k with another good performance with his time of 37 minutes and 1 second enough to secure 41st place in a highly competitive field of more than 430 runners - the standard of which illustrated fact that more than 80 of these runners were below the 40-minute benchmark.

Monklands Half Marathon

THERE was another fine run by Paul Lafferty at the Monklands half marathon on Sunday as he landed fifth position overall and second in the male senior category in a time of one hour, 19 minutes and 42 seconds behind winner Robert Gilroy of Cambuslang Harriers who has won the race for a remarkable THIRTEEN years in succession.

Eglinton Parkrun

THE heavy rain prior to the start of the Eglinton Parkrun on Saturday morning didn’t dampen the spirits of the Irvine participants with Paul Lafferty first across the line in a time of 18 minutes and 12 seconds with Alan Douglas (18:51) in second place. Jim Sneddon (20:34) was next runner home followed by Joe McNamee (22:52), Mike Flinn (23:06) and Jim White (23:56) with Colin Patterson (24:26) and Liz Colquhoun (28:35) - both warming up for next weekend’s Stirling marathon next to follow.

Madeleine Patterson (33:31) and Ian McManus (36:00) completed the Irvine contingent.
