YOUTH racing returned this week with the continuation of the West of Scotland Youth Crit race series at Bellahouston Park in Glasgow.

The start of the school holidays meant reduced fields of riders in the races and a smaller than normal team from Fullarton Wheelers. Nevertheless, Conal Davidson continued his development from rides earlier in the summer and put in a combative performance in the U14 Boys race riding well, with youngsters from other clubs and finishing the race in his best position to date. Martha Hillard took part in the U16 girls race, finishing second of three girls that rode what was a very tactical race.

On Saturday, 14 FWCC riders did a loop of Loch Ken in Galloway in glorious sunshine.

After gathering at Dalmellington the route headed South turning right into the village of New Galloway and left down the water side to Laurieston, then looping back round the Loch for lunch at the Clachan Inn at St. John's Town of Dalry. The riders were impressed by the much improved road surfaces and lack of traffic, particularly on the west side of Loch Ken. A massive improvement on Ayrshire surfaces. A great route with 70 miles for most and over 100 for those who cycled to Dalmellington.

The forecast heavy rain meant that only six riders participated in the Fullarton Sunday Run, because of the anticipated weather the fox hollow run was proposed being shorter than normal. From Irvine the ride went south through Loans, Troon and Mossblown before the rain set it. A mechanical and a crash meant for an eventful Sunday morning but by the end of the ride those remaining were soaked, but content having covered around 45 miles.
