FULLARTON Wheelers Cycling Club put a strong team into the Scottish National Team Time Trial championship held near Forfar.

The club was represented by Stevie Watters, Sean Barron, Mikey Allen and Derek Skinner who took on the 36-mile course which was two laps of a reasonably flat countryside circuit.

With a field of more than 120 riders, the event featured several very strong teams and individuals with most of the fastest amateur men and women from Scotland represented. Winners were Pro Vision in the men’s event and Dooleys RT in the women's race.

Fullarton came 24th despite a rider having a puncturing after 30 miles. Although perhaps slightly disappointed with their time, it's was a good occasion and the Fullarton team worked well as a group and gave it their all.

On the following day Sean Barron continued in racing mode and was joined by John Deans to represent FWCC at the Habbie Habble Road Race.

The event, promoted by Johnstone Wheelers, started in the village of Kilbrachan, Renfrewshire. The course was 36 miles, run over a series of four nine mile laps, each one beginning with a tough hill leading out of the village. The rest of the route was fairly undulating with some sharp digs, fast descents and technically challenging corners. Mechanical difficulties caused difficulties for both riders; John's seat post slipped on the first climb and he was forced to stop. With the post tightened he carried on, however by this time the main field was long gone and he decided to retire after completing three laps. Sean lost rear gear shifting two miles into the race, clinging on in the front group with only two usable gear combinations. No official results yet but he managed to come within the top 15 in the final sprint for the line. The event was won by a rider from Edinburgh Road Club. Over twenty Club members also turned out to support those racing.

Twenty Club members met a the Portal for the usual FWCC Sunday Run and decided to go and support the Fullarton recruits taking part in the road race. A steady pace from Irvine took the group past the Blair Tavern and on towards Barrmill, before joining the Lugton Road. The ride then took the Gleniffer Braes Road and enjoyed the fast descent into Howwood. Here they found a suitable spot to cheer on the riders in the race given them noisy and enthusiastic support as they passed.

They returned via Lochwinnoch, Glengarnock and the Blair Road after havin enjoyed a coffee and cake stop at the Castle Semple café. Around 40 miles for most in the sunshine.
