Fullarton Wheelers’ youths were back in racing action with a team of four riders taking part in the latest races in the West of Scotland Youth Circuit Race Series at the Kames Racing Track in Muirkirk.

First to race was Kyle Maitland making his debut in the U12 boys race. Kyle put in a strong performance maintaining his focus when up against considerably more experienced riders.

Conal Davidson continued his development in the U14 boys race, staying in the peloton initially and then working well with other riders. Zoe Watters and Martha Hillard then participated in a girls race that included U14, U16 and Junior girl riders.

Zoe performed brilliantly and was in the leading three riders for the whole of the race, eventually being the first U16 girl home.

Martha had a difficult start to the race but rallied well in the second half of the race, catching up half a lap to finish as fourth U16 girl.

The club also had four adult riders taking part in the Dooleys 10-mile Time Trial in Bishoptown. Catherine Logan was the first FWCC rider in 23 min 57 sec, followed closely by Aileen Clyde on 24:02 and Martin Shields on 24:03.

The event was won by John Archibald of Pro Vision Scotland, in a new Scottish record of 18:38.

Nearly 30 Fullarton riders took part the Ayrshire Alps sportive, all enjoying the spectacular scenery and tough climbs of this superb event organised by Ayr Burners Cycling.

Fullarton Wheelers have also been enjoying sunshine and warm temperatures this weekend as a group have been cycling to and spectating at La Vuelta a Espana, the Tour of Spain.

This included going to the Team Sky tour bus on Sunday who were so impressed they tweeted a photo of their visitors.

The FWCC visit to Team Sky obviously inspired the professional riders as Chris Froome went on to win the stage that day.
