IT was a fantastic weekend for Fullarton Wheelers Cycling Club's (FWCC) women and girl riders as they secured two firsts and a third place in regional competitions.

Catherine Logan won the trophy for the best woman rider in the Georgetown Time Trial League. The league is run on a weekly basis, throughout the summer, using the 7.2 mile Georgetown time trial course, with the winner being determined by the fastest four results from up to eleven rides. Consistency was the secret of Catherine’s success with her four times being between 17min32 sec and 17:43.

Her combined time for her four fastest rides was 1:10.37 - more than three minutes ahead of her nearest rival.

Saturday saw the final event in the Scottish Cycling West Youth Circuit Race Series.

FWCC took two podium places in the under-16 girls category with the series winner being Zoe Watters and Martha Hillard coming third.

The race series started back in March and Zoe has been consistently the best under 16 girl rider. She has participated in eight of the nine races, winning three times, coming second three times, and taking a third and a fourth.

Zoe won the final race in a dominant style breaking away from the pack early and maintaining a good lead. The FWCC girls then demonstrated fantastic team work in the mid-section of the race when, as Zoe lapped Martha, Martha put in a hard effort to lead out Zoe for a few laps and help her extend her lead.

By the end of the race Zoe was about a lap and a quarter (at least a kilometre) in front of the second-placed girl - a great way to win the series.

The Georgetown Cup was also raced on Saturday. A charity event where clubs from across the region enter as many riders as possible and the fastest eight times count towards the competition. A great turnout of nineteen Fullarton Wheelers took part in the event, with their first eight making them third out of the 15 clubs represented. Fullarton’s podium position was bitter sweet however as, having won the competition for the previous four years, they had to hand over the cup for the first time since 2013. Congratulations were given to the winners Glasgow Nightingale Cycling Club.

Fullarton riders also participated in the Sam Dooley Memorial 25-Mile Time Trial in Bishopton on Sunday.

With many of them still having the previous days exertions in their legs there were still some strong efforts. Mikey Allen continued his great form with a 1:00. 04, Alan Duncan achieved a 1:00.15, Derek Skinner 1:00.19 and Stevie Watters completed the course in 1:01.17. Aileen Clyde, Catherine Logan and Steve Donaldson also represented the club at this event but at the time of writing their times had not been confirmed.
