A SMASH hit Irvine sports club are celebrating news of some major funding.
Irvine Junior Badminton Club (IJBC) have been successful in receiving £4,000 in grant funding from Awards for All - the Big Lottery Fund.
The funding is to support Irvine Primaries Sports Project by supplying badminton coaches into local Primary schools to offer taster sessions and start up after school badminton clubs, followed by a badminton festival at Irvine Royal Academy, bringing all player at local schools to attend a half court competition.
Irvine Royal Academy active schools co-ordinator Stephen Fraser will arrange the sessions at Woodlands, Castlepark, Loudoun Montgomery, St Marks, Annick and St John Ogilvie Primaries. IJBC will supply coaches, rackets and shuttles
In the past year there has been an after school badminton club at Castlepark Primary and this club has been well supported.
IJBC have proposals to start up a new junior club in Castlepark Community Centre on Saturdays, from 10am until noon, with the cost £2 per child. The proposed start date is Saturday, September 30.
