IRVINE-based American Football team the West Coast Trojans held the first of their open trial days on Sunday at Ayrshire Athletics Arena (AAA) in Kilmarnock.

And in what were close to monsoon conditions, Head Coach McNey and assistant coach McManus put the potential new recruits through a series of footwork and ball drills.

Defensive co-ordinator Tam Chapman said: "The newbies got a feel for the type of training the club does week in week out. It was great to get outdoors on the grass. Ayrshire Athletics Arena is a great venue for our new practice facility. The new players put in the effort and enjoyed their first session for the club."

The club, who play home games at Meadow Park, will train at AAA until December 3.

They are also looking at a possible pre-season game in November against Inverness Stags.
