IRVINE Junior Badminton Club (IJBC) members had a busy weekend.

On Saturday, the Scottish Inter Area under 15 competition was hosted at Cockburn Centre in Glasgow. Six teams competed: West of Scotland, Glasgow, Midland, Highland, North East and Lothian. Five players from IJBC were included in the West of Scotland team - Angus Meldrum, Imogen Meldrum, Evan Kenny, Leo McMillan and Eva Tremble, other players making up the team were Iona Muir, Zoe McInnes and Tommy Lygate.

West of Scotland won all four initial matches and were beaten by winners Lothian in the final match, finishing the tournament in second spot.. West had a young team and all are illegible for next years event.

On Sunday, local girls Imogen Meldrum and Eva Tremble travelled to Penicuik to compete in the Midlothian under-13 tournament. Second seed Eva won her pool playing team mate Imogen in the semi final, Eva won 15-10, 15-4 to secure a place in the final against number one seed Iona Muir from Renfrew. In a tight first set Eva edged by, winning 15-13 and won the second set 15-6 to lift the title.

In the girls doubles Eva and Iona were number one seeds, they won their pool playing Imogen Meldrum and Rachael Agnew in the final. Eva and Iona won the final 21-8, making it a double for the local girl.

This weekend Eva and Imogen represent Glasgow School of Sport, travelling to Lilleshall near Birmingham to compete in England under-13 Gold event. This is a step up in standard where they will compete against the best players in Britain.
