Irvine boxer on way to title shot
FAST-emerging Irvine fighter Ryan Brawley is on course for a British title tilt, according to promoter Tommy Gilmour.
The lightweight comfortably out-pointed vastly experienced Sheffield boxer Daniel Thorpe 60-54 in a six-round light welterweight contest in front a capacity crowd at the Play Drome in Clydebank, less than three months after his Prizefighter triumph at the Kelvin Hall.
While the talented Irvine fighter was on top throughout he faced a determined opponent who wanted to go down battling but the important thing was that he got the result which leaves him in contention for a British title eliminator against champion John Murray.
Gilmour pledged after the fight that he would contact the British Boxing Board to insist Brawley was entitled to be part of an eliminator for the British title, saying: 'It was a frustrating fight for Ryan because Thorpe is experienced and wily but there was never any doubt about the outcome. It was a win to build the confidence of someone who used to get sick with nerves on the day of a fight.'
