McBookie Ayrshire District League

IRVINE VICTORIA 0

LUGAR BOSWELL THISTLE 2

VICS slumped to their first defeat in 11 league games as they went down to a spirited Lugar side at Victoria Park.

The visitors were up for the match from the off and they went ahead in 25 minutes when a mistake by home goalie Chris Lamb allowed a visiting player in to knock the ball home.

Vics kept battling and in 25 minutes, Paul Monan agonisingly shot wide of target after making a good run into the box.

Stevie Wilson's side were so close to levelling in 35 minutes when a well flighted free-kick from just outside the box by Callum Davidson crashed off the crossbar and rebounded to safety.

Then right on half-time another chance was missed when skipper Robert Burgess latched onto a free-kick but shot just past the post.

The home side had what looked like a legitimate goal chopped off in 65 minutes when the ball broke David Wilson who hit a fresh air shot. The ball broke back to him and he shot home. But the referee disallowed it, claiming he had kicked the ball out of the keeper's hands, although there looked to have been no contact

It was all Vics and Carlo Scaramuzza shot just over the bar from close range.

However Vics were caught with a classic sucker punch five minutes from time as they pushed for the equaliser.

Lugar broke forward and a visiting player cut inside home defender Paul Young and set up the striker to knock the ball home from close range.

Two minutes later the hosts were reduced to 10 men when Scaramuzza was sent off for a lunge at a Lugar player.

West of Scotland Cup Fourth Round

DIRRANS ATHLETIC 0

HALDANE UNITED 1

DIRRANS saw their West of Scotland Cup run end as they lost to a strong visiting side.

Tough conditions made it difficult to play good football.

The first chance came to Dirrans and John Pirrie was through on goal but shot just wide.

Logan Stevenston then crossed to Stephen Cochrane, whose shot was cleared on the line. Haldane were very dangerous at set plays and Brian Strain cleared a free-kick on the line. Dirrans were denied a penalty in 50 minutes when Stevenston was upended inside the box.

In the second half the visitors hit the bar and put Dirrans under pressure from set plays.

Ross Stewart kept them out with two great saves. Chris Bennett then had a shot blocked as play swung from end-to-end.

Haldane made the breakthrough late on with a shot into the bottom corner box of the net.

Dirrans threw everything at their opponents but couldn't get the goal their efforts deserved.

They were up against a very good side but ran them close.
