KELLO ROVERS 0

IRVINE VICTORIA 1

ON-form Vics continued their fine run by putting stuffy Kello to the sword at Nithside Park.

The visiting side began well and enjoyed much of the possession in the opening 20 minutes without creating any real clearcut chances.

They finally made the breakthrough with a well-worked goal in 33 minutes as Darren Russell made a run and fired in a cross to Ciaran McDermott who cut inside and beat two defenders before firing in a cross to Jordan Craig who shot home from four yards. Three minutes later Craig saw his 20-yard effort well saved by the home goalie as Vics pushed for a second goal.

After the break the Westenders were still in command and they had a good opening in 66 minutes when a Craig shot from 16 yards was well handled by the home goalie. Then just two minutes later they came close yet again when Brandon McEvoy shot wide from 20 yards.

Ten minutes from time Vics had a goal chopped off after Kevin Adam sent home a diving header but was adjudged to be offside although there didn't look to be much in it.

Kello were rarely seen as an attacking threat and visiting goalie Chris Lamb had very little to do.

Vics boss Stevie Wilson said: "Kello are quite a stuffy side but I was pleased with our performance and it's good to progress in the cup. We could have scored more goals had we taken our chances but the main thing is we are through."

IRVINE VICTORIA: Lamb; McEvoy, McDermott, Young, Burgess, Scaramuzza, Chesney, Craig, Adam, Ablohr, Singleton. Subs: Russell, Mitchell, Hislop, Stewart.

Donsport Trophy Quarter-Final

KILBIRNIE 0

DIRRANS 3

DOMINANT Dirrans wer in fine form as they progressed to their second semi-final of the season against a strong Kilbirnie team.

Jason Stewart's team started really well and Logan Stevenston and Scott Milne both came close in the early stages as they took the game to the home side.

The Kilwinning side deservedly made the breakthrough when a good passing move was finished off by Milne.

More chances came before Graeme Muir doubled the lead after he finished off a quickly-taken corner-kick from Stephen Cochrane.

Goal number three came after a quick break down the left hand side, with great lay from Stevenston allowing him to pick out the on-rushing Chris Bennett to thump the ball home and give the visitors an easy half-time lead.

The second half saw Kilbirnie trying hard to get back into the match and giving it a good go.

However Dirrans stood tall and really should have added more goals on the break with Stevenston and Milne both missing great opportunities.

Dirrans had the ball over the line late on after Cochrane blasted up towards the bar the ball bounced down over the line and out but the referee somehow didn't see it that way and refused to give the goal.

The visitors easily saw out the rest of the game and deservedly booked their place in the last four of the top cup competition.
