IRVINE boxing ace Ryan Collins is just days away from his biggest fight to date.

The Vineburgh prospect believes he will outclass Inverness' Andrew Mackay (5-0) when the pair collide for the vacant Scottish lightweight title this Friday, June 24 at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Glasgow.

And although the event may be a black tie dinner show, Collins' army of supporters will no doubt make enough noise to rival a 20,000 seater arena.

Winning the Scottish belt has been a serious ambition for the 22-year-old who hopes a victory could set him on the path towards a British title.

Collins (12-2) is currently on a four fight winning streak but before that the Irvine man suffered a devastating loss to Abdon Cesar and a contentious points defeat to Chris Adaway.

But Collins says the experience gained in those losses, as well as sparring with the likes of Carl Frampton and Shane Mosley, will be too much for the undefeated Highlander.

Speaking ahead of the fight, Collins said: "I'm excited now I can't wait to get in there and see what he's got.

"I've been sparring everyone from featherweights to middleweights but it's all down to me now.

"The difference in training has been my punching, we've been working on endurance for the second half.

"I don't want to get too cocky but my experience, all the rounds of sparring I've done, gives me the edge. He hasn't suffered any setbacks.

"The last few fights I've tried to box but if he comes out swinging in the first round then I'll trade with him but I don't think he'll be able to set that pace for 10 rounds."

Collins added: "The cheapest ticket for this is £85 and I've got about 80 people coming so I'm really grateful for the support, that's thousands of pounds being spent.

"I just hope I can bring back the title and I think in the later rounds I think I'll start showing my class. I can't see how he troubles me."

Inverness giant Gary Cornish fights as chief support alongside prospects Aston Brown, James Thompson, Shaun Dick and Derek Herron.

Tickets cost £85 and a limited number are available from promoters Saltire Boxing on 0141 810 5700.
