ALMOST 500 fans packed into Abbey Park on Sunday for a match which allowed Old Firm rivalries to be renewed,

And fans had an opportunity to play alongside their heroes.

Old Firm Greats staged a challenge match for the first time in Ayrshire.

Derek Johnstone managed the Rangers side which featured Charlie Miller, Bob Malcolm and John McDonald, along with ex-Killie and Ayr United ace Andy McLaren and ex-Killie and St Mirren player Jose Quitongo. Stevenston wrestler Grado was a guest for the light blues.

Celtic were managed by legendary striker Frank McGarvey and featured captain Mark Wilson, Simon Donnelly. Bobby Petta and Rudi Vata with maverick politician Tommy Sheridan a guest star for the Hoops.

Around 10 fans had the opportunity to play for their favourite side.

For the record Celtic won 5-4 after blasting home three late goals.

Event organiser Bernie Vallely said: "The event went really well, we were over the moon with how the people of Kilwinning came and supported the players. All the players had a fantastic experience and the kids enjoyed themselves.

"We would like to thank Ayrshire Bouncy Castles, Premier Security, all the local schoolkids, staff and committee at Kilwinning Rangers for their support. This was our first game in Ayrshire. Hopefully we will return to Kilwinning and anyone with a venue who would like to host an event should get in touch with us.

"We aim to give the ordinary supporters a five-star experience and provide physios, kit men and refreshments."

Sheridan hosted a question and answer session after the match.
