KILMARNOCK 1

MOTHERWELL 0

DEFENDER Scott Boyd was the unlikely scorer for Kilmarnock as they celebrated a landmark win at Rugby Park on Saturday.

It was the first time they had completed back-to-back home league victories since March 2015 and continues their remarkable revival under boss Steve Clarke.

They were in bottom spot when he took over but are now in eighth place - just two points off the top six.

The manager is highly impressed with their progress and said: "Last week it was back-to-back wins and now it is back-to-back home wins. Scott's not the prettiest training ground player but he knows how to defend in games and his record shows that. It was always going to be a scrappy goal which won it and I'm glad Scott was there to get it."

Motherwell were strong in the first half and in 12 minutes came close when Craig Tanner latched on to a cross from Richard Tait, but Jamie MacDonald saved confidently.

Then in 40 minutes a Ryan Bowman neat back heel set Tait free and his poorly executed shot was easily saved by on-form MacDonald.

However a minute later the deadlock was broken when Chris Burke swung a corner-kick in from the left and Russell Griffiths was only able to flap at the ball under pressure from Kris Boyd. However the ball fell to namesake Scott, who nudged it home despite the efforts of visiting goalie Carl McHugh.

After the break the Steelmen put some pressure on Killie and substitute Andy Rose had a glimpse of goal, however Scott Boyd blocked and MacDonald saved the follow-up from Fisher.

Clarke then made a change as he brought on Jordan Jones for Alan Power and he made an almost instant impact in 55 minutes when he rattled in a shot which Griffiths confidently blocked.
