ABERDEEN 3

KILMARNOCK 1

TITLE-chasing Aberdeen handed Killie their first defeat in eight games and only their second loss on the road all season.

A wonder goal from double hero Scott McKenna, which cancelled out Kris Boyd's opener, proved pivotal as the Rugby Park side crashed back down to earth following a hugely impressive run of form.

Killie got off to a dream start in just 20 minutes when Kris Boyd deflected Greg Taylor's shot into the net with his backside.

However momentum totally shifted as the hosts scored twice inside three second half minutes.

Firstly in 49 minutes the Dons equalised as a McKenna header crashed off the bar and Adam Rooney forced the ball past visiting goalie Jamie MacDonald. Just three minutes later McKenna, who was on loan to Ayr United last season smashed home a sensational shot from 40 yards, which even had MacDonald gasping in amazement.

In 72 minutes Niall McGinn sealed victory when he robbed Gary Dicker inside his own half and ran in to knock the ball home.

Killie boss Steve Clarke admitted he was keeping his feet on the ground despite the recent impressive run.

He said: "I've never stopped looking over my shoulder since I came to the club. There's talk about us getting into the top six but it will probably take us until the league splits to recover from three points in the opening eight games.

"You can't give away 21 points in the first eight games and hope you're going to have a nice smooth ride right through the season."
