KILMARNOCK 1

CELTIC 0

By Stewart McConnell

A LANDMARK debut goal in Killie colours for former West Brom ace Youssouf Mulumbu helped the Rugby Park rack up their first home win against the Hoops in eight years.

Later delighted goalie Jamie McDonald, who had a surprisingly quiet afternoon against out-of-sorts Celts felt Killie were well worthy of their victory.

Killie's game plan to keep the visitors away from the home goal, worked a treat, as they reined them and made sure they hardly had a a sniff of goal.

The goalie, who has been in impressive form said: "That is one of the best defensive performances from a team that I have ever been involved in, to be honest - especially against a team like Celtic.

"I was useless - not useless but you know what I mean - I wasn't really used, wasn't really called upon. The boys in front of me were outstanding, from the boys up front to the midfield, which I thought we dominated. They had the ball for larger periods, but when it got to the 50/50s I think we won most of them."

Killie had a good opening early in the first half and Jordan Jones picked up a return pass from Eamonn Brophy but his show was blocked by visiting goalie Dorus De Vries.

Late on in the opening period, De Vries could only parry a Jones shot and the ball broke inside the penalty area to Greg Taylor, who sliced a shot wide.

Celtic had a rare chance when Sinclair latched on to a Moussa Dembele flick but he was unable to get his shot on target.

At the other end Jones crossed to Kirk Broadfoot but the visiting goalie saved from the former Ranger.

However in 79 minutes Mulumbu delivered a crossfield pass to Jones and carried on his run into the box before taking the ball back from the winger and sending the ball across the Hoops goalie and into the corner of the net. It was an exquisite finish and was enough to seal a win and hand the Hoops their second domestic defeat of the season.
