KILMARNOCK 1

VASTLY experienced striker Kris Boyd blasted home a second half penalty as on-song Killie earned a Rugby Park replay with the Dons next Tuesday.

And the front man earned praise from the last line of defence, goalkeeper Jamie MacDonald as Killie maintained their fine run of form.

Boyd is the all-time leading Goalscorer in the Premiership and the Rugby Park number one said: "It was a great penalty from Boydy and no goalkeeper is saving that because it is right in the top corner. He thrives on these occasions because he has been doing it for years and hopefully he can get a few more in the replay."

Added Killie boss Steve Clarke: "The last thing we wanted was another midweek fixtures because we've got a lot of them coming up. But we'll the replay. I think the tie is still open and 50-50. Aberdeen are still slight favourites because they are the team who have been up there for years years. We're working hard as a group and results are decent."

The Dons went ahead in nine minutes when Ryan Christie sent a fine through pass to Graeme Shinnie who ran onto the ball and sneaked a shot home.

Visiting player Eamonn Brophy then looked for a penalty when he took a tumble, claiming to have been fouled by Ryan Christie. However the referee booked him for simulation.

Then in 68 minutes visiting player Jordan Jones went down inside the box and Boyd drove home the resultant penalty for his 17th goal of the season.

He then mocked the home fans' jibes at him by making sumo impressions as he celebrated.

Late on Adam Rooney sent a half volley narrowly wide for the hosts and then headed straight at MacDonald as it ended deadlocked.
