HAMILTON 1

KILMARNOCK 2

TOP talisman Kris Boyd blasted his 21st goal of the season as Killie edged out Accies to equal a longstanding record.

It was their sixth successive win and the first time this has been achieved since way back in 1966.

Now Steve Clarke's side are just four points behind fourth-placed Hibernian, with five games remaining.

However the manager is playing down their hopes of catching Neil Lennon's side, a feat which could earn them a place in the Europa League.

He said afterwards: "I don't think you can get too far ahead of yourself. It's also a bit disrespectful to Motherwell, because they've just reached the Scottish Cup final. If they win it, which they can do, then it doesn't come down to fourth place in the league.

"For us, the first objective was to avoid relegation, the second was to reach top six and we've done that. The next objective is to secure fifth and we have a gap on Hearts."

Killie played more of the football in the first half, although Hamilton created better chances.

The visitors had a couple of openings, with Boyd and Youssof Mulumbu both coming close, while Aaron Simpson headed straight at Gary Woods.

Killie took the lead in 63 minutes when former Ranger Kirk Broadfoot headed home a Jordan Jones corner-kick.

Accies levelled 10 minutes later when a David Templeton free-kick came back the post, struck league debutant Leo Fasan on the arm and trickled over the line.

However Killie snatched victory in 79 minutes when Simpson's driven cross was fired beyond Gary Woods and into the net.

KILMARNOCK: Fasan; Simpson, Broadfoot, Findlay, Taylor, Dicker, Mulumbu, McKenzie (Power 16), Kiltie (Brophy 76), Jones, K Boyd (Cameron 90). Subs not used: MacDonald, S Boyd, Wilson).
