REJUVENATED striker Ross McPherson hopes Saturday's thumping Scottish Junior Cup victory can be the catalyst for a revival in their fortunes.

McPherson, nicknamed Archie, scored a double in the 6-1 demolition of Blackburn United in a third round tie which was just his second game back following lengthy injury absence.

Now they return to Premier Division business with a game away to Arthurlie on Saturday and will be hoping to avenge the opening day defeat at Meadow Park.

The striker was encouraged with the display and said: "We played well and it was njce to get a couple of goals but it was a good performance and it's more about the team than individuals. I was out for nine weeks with a broken metatarsal. but am getting my sharpness back. We have not started well in the league but we will take it a game at a time. Scoring six goals in one game should breed confidence and hopefully we will kick on from there."

Former Ayr United midfielder David Sinclair also hopes to help Meadow improve after joining on loan from Stirling Albion until January and making his debut in the cup tie.

McPherson said: "We have good bunch of boys here and I played alongside Marc Twaddle and Grant Evans . I can't believe Irvine Meadow are bottom of the league. Sometimes there can be small margins in defeat and my aim is to help the team out and do well./"

Manager Stevie Rankin was impressed with his team's showing and said: "The second half performance was good and we passed the ball and it's great to still be in the Scottish Cup. It's good to have someone with David Sinclair's experience in the squad

But he is now fully focused on Saturday and said: "We really need to pick up points in the league., Arthurlie beat us in the league at Meadow Park at the start of the season and we will be looking to take the points on Saturday."

Kilwinning Rangers manager Chris Strain Jnr praised his side as they defeated Sauchie 2-1 in another Scottish Cup tie.

Strain said: "We showed great spirit to come back after losing an early goal although the guys are adamant the ball didn't cross the line. Conditions were tough and we had to adapt to them. It was good to see Barry Fleeting scoring and great to be through as we are a good cup team."

Buffs have no game on Saturday but the following week host Largs Thistle.

Strain said: "The cup is over until January but we must focus on trying to get into the promotion mix in the league."

Irvine Victoria are set to return to action on Saturday with a league game away to Whitletts Victoria after their game away to Dalry Thistle was called off owing to waterlogged pitch.
