DETERMINED Irvine Victoria manager Stevie Wilson praised his side for a spirited comeback which saw them salvage a draw at home to Petershill.

And he insists he will fight all the way to help the basement club survive in the second tier of the junior game.

The Westenders were 2-0 down but battled back to make it 2-2 with goals from Eddie Ablohr and Graham Longair. But David Adams missed a penalty midway which would have sealed victory through the second half.

They remain bottom of the table with just six points from 15 games.

Wilson is heartened with his team's recent performances and said: "We could have won the game - Davie Adams is normally spot on with his penalties but it's just one of these things. Chances were also missed by George Bonner and Jamie Anderson. We lost a couple of bad goals through defensive errors but showed a fighting spirit coming back. We played very well at Clydebank the previous week but were unlucky not to take anything from the game and we played well against Renfrew and Shettleston."

Added the manager in his second full season in charge: "We want to stay up. There are 33 points to be played for so there's a long way to go. We will keep working hard. It's been difficult not having a settled squad. Jamie Anderson was out for four months and Jordan Craig two months through injury. Davie Wilson also had to retire through injury."

Vics on Saturday make the long trip south to face promotion-chasing Girvan, who defeated Blantyre Vics 6-1 away.

Wilson said: "We don't fear anyone and will be going there to win."

Meanwhile Kilwinning Rangers host local rivals Kilbirnie Ladeside in a relegation showdown on Saturday.

Buffs boss Chris Strain said: "It's a five-way scrap to avoid the bottom three places between us, Largs, Kilbirnie, Troon and Hurlford. I saw Kilbirnie's game at Beith and they were lucky to take anything from it. But they showed good fighting spirit to come back and draw the game. We must look to win the head-to-heads against Kilbirnie, Troon and Hurlford, which are all at home."

Irvine Meadow host Shotts Bon Accord on Saturday.

Co-boss Michael Wardrope said: "We did well to win our last home league game and will be looking to take three points."
