JUBILANT striker Ben Lewis said Kilwinning Rangers fear no-one after they sent joint favourites Kelty Hearts crashing out of the Scottish Junior Cup.

And manager Chris Strain rated it as one of their best results during his time in charge.

Buffs soared into the quarter-finals for the second year running as they became the first team in Scotland to beat the Fifers this season and end their 26-match unbeaten run.

They were 2-1 winners at Central Park, Ricky Hanvey scoring the opening goal before Lewis doubled their tally.

Lewis was impressed with the performance and told Sportscene: "We went into the game confident we could win and our game plan was spot on.We hit Kelty on the counter-attack The players had a great attitude. I know when we play at our best we can beat anyone and we showed that on Saturday. Kelty are a real quality side. It was great to score a goal, I must be into double figures.

"Our cup form has been good and Hopefully we can progress."

Lewis was delighted to meet Gerry Peline, the goal hero from Buffs' 1999 Scottish Junior Cup final against Kelty and he revealed he also had a message of congratulations from another hero of 1999.

He said: "It was great Gerry came to support us and he came into the dressing room at the end and sang Buffs songs. Paul Mullin sent me a message via Facebook on Saturday night. That was a nice touch."

Lewis (25), who has been at Abbey Park for eight years, says the immediate focus is now on survival as basement team Buffs host Cumnock in the Super Premier Division on Saturday.

He added: "The main aim is to make sure we stay up and we look to beat Cumnock on Saturday. We must starting picking up wins."

Strain said: "We were worthy winners and that has to be one of our most satisfying results. There wasn't a single failure in the team, everyone worked their socks. Our goalie ADam Strain had a calf injury in the first half but insisted on carrying on, that shows his commitments. Kelty are one of the best teams we have played in my time here and we played really well."

Asked who he would like in the quarter-finals, Strain said: "It would be good to avoid the teams in our league."

However his focus for now back on the league campaign.

He added: "Cumnock are looking for a win so stay up and it will be tough because we lost 3-1 to Kilbirnie but they beat them 6-0 in the West of Scotland Cup. But we need some victories and are looking to take the three points."

Goalkeeper Strain is set to miss out with his injury with Craig Burns set to replace him.
