IRVINE VICTORIA 0

CUMBERNAULD 2

BASEMENT side Vics paid the price for missed chances as they went down to a Cumbernauld side who look to be edging towards safety.

It was the 12th defeat out of 16 for Stevie Wilson's side, who badly need wins to stand any chance of survival.

Vics began brightly and a good move in 10 minutes saw Davie Adams shoot over the bar.

Five minutes later Grant Bolton made a run and set up Jamie Anderson, whose effort was blocked by a visiting defender. Then an Adams effort was scrambled away by a defender in 20 minutes.

However five minutes later play was waved on, despite an off-the-ball incident which saw a visiting player take a swing at Eddie Ablohr and a through pass was played to striker Paddy McCabe, who rounded goalkeeper Chris Lamb and slotted home.

Then nine minutes after the break a ball was played behind the Vics defence and striker Jamie Watson powerfully headed home.

Ryan Singleton missed a scoring opportunity for Vics with 15 minutes remaining as the visitors held on to win comfortably.

Vics boss Stevie Wilson said: "We started well but I was disappointed with our overall performance."
