IRVINE MEADOW 3

SHETTLESTON 0

By Matt Speirs

FORM team Meadow racked up their second successive victory to keep them strongly in contention for promotion.

The outcome of this match was never in doubt with the home side dictating much of the game and never allowing their opponents to play.

They produced some fine, attacking football and look to be peaking just at the right time as competition intensifies for a place in the Premier Division.

The opening goal arrived in four minutes when a high ball into the Shettleston penalty area was handled by a defender and Ben Carson netted from the penalty spot. A minute later the home side once again came close when Graham Boyd burst through rounded the keeper but was forced wide and could not find the net.

Meadow were throwing everything at Shettleston and seven minutes a good piece of play saw Graham Barbour set up Black but he shot wide.

Two minutes later Meadow did get a second goal when Black raced to the goal-line and his low cross was turned into the net by Carson.

Right on half time Jared Willett played in Lee McCrea but his shot was just too high.

The Shettleston players must have been given a rollicking by their manager at the interval as they were more in the game after the interval and on the hour, substitute Lewis Kinnaird saw a shot turned over for a corner by home goalie Shaun Newman.

Midway through the half Black picked up a ball deep in his own half and beat three defenders but his final shot went into the side netting.

Two minutes from the end time Meadow made sure of victory was a third goal. It was a well-worked effort as substitute Stuart Hannah burst down the left and there was no doubt about the penalty as he was clearly fouled. With Carson off the field, skipper Mark McLennan took the spot-kick and netted to seal a decisive victory.
