OFF-form Irvine Meadow have blown their chances of promotion, disappointed co-manager Michael Wardrope conceded on Monday.

But the players are being warned their futures are on the line unless they improve before the end of the season.

Meadow on Monday night went down 1-0 to Renfrew, leaving them virtually out of the running for a return to the Premier Division.

Wardrope said after the game: "Ben Black had a chance in the first half but apart from that we never looked like scoring. The heads are going down but you get that with a young team, possibly we have been punching above our weight during the season and sitting quite high in the league and now we are finding our level.

"We have lost our mojo now and it';s looking very unlikely that we will go up now with teams like Girvan and Rutherglen Glencairn hitting form. As soon as we got into third place there was a bit of a wobble, when we got higher in the league the expectations level were high and people couldn't cope with it. There's a lot to play for and we don't want the season just to fizzle out."

But Wardrope warned: "I know this is a tougher league than the Premier Division. But the players will have to learn quickly from this season or they won't be here - it's as simple as that."

Meadow on Saturday head to Rutherglen Glencairn on Saturday and the co-manager said: "They are on a great run but we will be looking to win the game."

Irvine Victoria boss Stevie Wilson conceded his team are set to be relegated after a 1-0 home defeat against Glencairn on Saturday. The Westenders have to win all their remaining games and hope 21 results go their way before the end of the season.

He said: "It's a real tough ask for us to stay up now but I felt we played well at times on Saturday, Kevin Adam missed a couple of chances for us and that has been the story of the season. The bottom line is we have not scored enough goals and that has come back to haunt us. We have our last home league game on Saturday against Maryhill and will be looking for a good performance, hopefully we can take the three points. Most of the clubs we have come up against can't believe we are in this position as they are impressed with how we play but the breaks have not gone our way, that's the way it goes. If we had taken some of our chances we might have been in a different position.

"I can't fault the players for their efforts as they have worked really hard."
