STRUGGLING Kilwinning Rangers will need seven points from their last three league games to secure automatic survival in the Super First Division.

Boss Chris Strain admitted it would be a "tough ask" but will pull out all the stops to try and keep their top flight berth.

Kilbirnie Ladeside's 1-0 victory at Kirkintilloch Rob Roy has left Buffs needing two wins and a draw from their final three league games to overhaul the fourth-bottom side.

Third-bottom Buffs play Arthurlie away on Saturday and their remaining games are at home to Pollok and away to champions Auchinleck Talbot.

Strain said: "We now know what we have to do, it's a tough ask. The first aim is to beat Arthurlie which would mean Troon would have to win their last two games to catch us. Then we can focus on the other games."

Buffs last Wednesday progressed to the quarter-finals of the Ayrshire Weekly Press Cup with a 3-2 home win against Darvel.

Strain said: "We had a lot of the play and Darvel got a soft penalty in the second half."

Irvine Meadow co-boss Michael Wardrope felt his side were unlucky not to beat hosts Rutherglen Glencairn.

He said: "We had a depleted squad as Mark McLennan was out with a knee injury and Willie Wells was on holiday with Graham Muir working. Mark Murray is resting until the end of the season to see if he can get over his injury problems. It was a much-improved performance considering three or four who started were carrying knocks. Rutherglen are the form team but we were on top in the second half and could have nicked it at the death."

Meadow on Saturday play Premier Division Beith away in the Ayrshire Weekly Press Cup and Wardrope said: "It will be a good test against top Premier opposition."
