MEADOW were held by last season's District League champions after passing up a host of chances at Recreation Park.

The visitors began well and early on, Eddie McTernan hit the post following a mix-up in the Darvel defence.

Darvel then won three corner-kicks in succession but the visiting defence easily dealt with them.

Meadow kept pushing and Stuart Hannah shot across the face of goal but Darvel cleared before Danny McKay could tap the ball home.

Another opportunity came when Darren Miller hit the side netting from a Ross McKinnon corner-kick.

At the other end visiting goalie Craig Gordon made a fine save from a 25-yard effort. McKinnon was then booked for a challenge out wide.

McTernan then saw his fierce 25-yard effort tipped over the bar by the home goalie.

Early in the second half McTernan had two shots saved and ex-Meadow player Greg Vernon came close for the home side

Darvel then had the ball in the net but the "goal" was chalked off for offside.

The visitors agonisingly hit the bar with a header and missed a couple of late chances as the match ended deadlocked.
