NEWLY-married Irvine Victoria boss Stevie Wilson hopes to complete a dream year by helping his side maintain a strong promotion challenge.

Wilson's team had a day off on Saturday as he married partner Michelle Brown at the Brisbane Hotel.

Now he is putting his honeymoon on hold and returns to work with the Westenders as they league leaders host Whitletts Victoria on Saturday.

Vics are a point clear of Ardrossan Winton Rovers, who have played four games more as they enter the crucial second half of the season.

The Irvine team have won eight of their 10 opening games.

Wilson expects a testing game against Whitletts, who defeated Maybole 2-1 in their first outing under new manager George Grierson.

He said: "We are now into the second half of the season and if we do as well as we did in the first half we will be up there. Our aim is promotion but we expect a difficult game as Whitletts have George Grierson in charge, he is a good manager and I know him well, but hopefully we can take three points."

Added the manager: "We have played top teams like Winton and Maybole twice, but there will be no easy three points to play for in this league."

Vics, meanwhile have strengthened their squad by securing midfielder/forward David Cunningham on loan from Girvan.

He said: "David is a great addition to the squad as he can play behind the the front men and also in the attack. He has experience at the top level."
