AMBITIOUS Irvine Victoria boss Stevie Wilson is going all out for promotion after his side came from behind to win one of their biggest games of the season.

The Westenders became the first side to defeat high-flying Dalry Thistle, winning 2-1 at Victoria Park thanks to a last minute goal from Eddie Ablorh.

Victory was especially sweet for Wilson, who has won a title and one another promotion with the Irvine side.

However he will not get carried away, despite his team moving six points clear of second-placed Craigmark Burntonians, who have a game in hand.

Wilson could hardly hide his delight and said: "Everyone was telling me Dalry were going to win the game beforehand and we could have settled for a draw. But we kept battling right to the end and it was an excellent winning goal from Eddie Alborh. Kenny Parris also had a great game and had a hand in both goals. We deserved to win the game."

However he added: "We are in a good position but nothing has been achieved yet. But the aim has to be to get into a position so that we can win promotion as soon as possible."

Wilson's team visit Saltcoats Vics on Saturday and he expects a stiff test.

He said: "We took a while to break them down last time and I expect it to be the same again but we must aim to win,"

Meanwhile Irvine Meadow manager Brian McGinty believes his side could challenge for promotion after chalking up a fourth straight league win.

They defeated Shettleston 3-0 in a Super First Division game.

McGinty said: "I wasn't talking about promotion a few weeks ago because of where we were. But have won our last four games and hopefully we can challenge for a playoff spot by finishing fifth or sixth.

"We played well at Shettleston and it was good to see our new signing Div MacKay score on his debut, he is a really good player who carries a goal threat. We controlled the game. It was also really pleasing to get another clean sheet."

Striker James Marks has been transfer-listed as he wasn't getting regular football and Stuart Hannah has gone out on loan to Dalry Thistle for the rest of the season.

Meadow on Saturday host Cambuslang Rangers and McGinty added: "They are going really well at the top of the league but we must look to win the game."
