TITLE hopefuls Irvine Vics are hoping to go out on a blaze of glory this season after maintaining their stranglehold at the top of the McBookie Ayrshire District League.

Leaders Vics defeated Maybole 2-1 at Ladywell Stadium to remain six points clear of Craigmark Burntonians, who have a game in hand.

It was their third defeat against the South Ayrshire side this season, having already beaten them at home in the league and away in the Scottish Junior Cup.

Manager Stevie Wilson was encouraged with the performance and said: "It was 0-0 at half-time although we missed a couple of chances. The pitch was in a really poor condition so it was difficult to play good football. But Kenny Parris scored a good goal and a second one which left us in a good position. His experience has been vital and David Cunningham has done well but it's a real team effort. Maybole scored a very late consolation but they had very few chances. Things are going well now but nothing has been achieved.

"The target is to win our remaining five games and we have Dalry away on Saturday and Annbank at home on Monday night but we will take them one at a time."
