HIGH-flying District League leaders Irvine Victoria are closing in on promotion after racking up two successive easy wins.

They have banged in 12 goals and conceded just one in the last two games, beating Muirkirk 3-0 on Saturday five days after a 9-1 triumph against Annbank United.

Vics have won 14 out of 18 games and could be promoted without kicking a ball tomorrow (Wednesday).

Boss Stevie Wilson said: "It was a good win on Saturday and results are all that count at this stage of the season. We want to pick up as many points as we can and look forward to the game at Craigmark on Saturday. But if Dalry take anything from Whitletts at home on Wednesday we will be up which would be a good achievement. But we have been there before after being promoted twice in the past few years and the players who get us there are still there."

Upbeat Irvine Meadow manager Brian McGinty insists his side are still on course for promotion to the Championship after two important wins.

They defeated Maryhill 1-0 away on Saturday, three days after edging out a Kello Rovers side, managed by former Meadow assistant boss John Quinn, 3-2 at Nitshide Park.

McGinty said: "It was a long trip on Wednesday but we got the job done and it was a good result at Maryhill. We know nothing has been achieved yet but we are aiming for automatic promotion and can hopefully achieve that. We to to Renfrew on Wednesday and are looking to win."
