Irvine Meadow 1 Cumnock 0

WHILE the game ended in a narrow victory for Meadow had it not been for keepers Michael Wardrope and Graham Potter we would have had a feast of goals.

Both sides were committed from the kick off and only a fine save by Wardrope after 10 minutes denied Gareth Armstrong.

Two minutes later Meadow took the lead when a Mark Crilly free-kick found Chris Strain who headed unchallenged into the net.

Both sides went hammer and tongs after this but could not create any clearcut chances. Cumnock went looking for an early equaliser after the break but Michael Wardrope dealt confidently with two Gareth Armstrong headers.

Ten minutes after the interval Emelio Jaconneli beat two men at the edge of the penalty area but his lob just cleared the crossbar.

Two minutes later Emilio Jaconelli had another chance but his effort was well saved by Graham Potter. A minute later Wardrope again showed his class, turning away a Jamie Moan shot for a corner that came to nothing.

Within the space of two minutes midway through the half Wardrope produced fine saves to deny Craig Wilson and Gareth Armstrong.

It was then the turn of Cumnock keeper Graham Potter to deny David Hamilton and Zander Ryan.

With time running out Cumnock pushed forward and with four minutes left Wardrope pulled off another fine save to deny Jamie Moan.

This result keeps Meadow in the race for the championship but leaves Cumnock floundering in the relegation zone.
